Why?

Why do we put such a strong emphasis on the Word? All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16

Why do we immerse for water baptism?  As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water…Matthew 3:16; Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

Why do we have Communion? This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, this cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:24-26

Why do we give tithes and offerings?  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10

Why do we audibly praise God? Praise the Lord, Praise God in his sanctuary… Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalm 150:1, 6

Why do we stand and sing?  Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of the Lord! Psalm 134:1

Why do we sing choruses?  Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.            Colossians 3:16

Why do we shout unto the Lord? So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!  Psalm 32:11

Why do we clap our hands? Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! Psalm 47:1

Why do we lift our hands? I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. Psalm 63:4

Why do we sometimes dance? Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Psalm150:4

Why do we have instruments during worship? Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, harp, lyre, timbrel, strings, pipes, clash of cymbals, and resounding cymbals. Psalm 150:3-5

Why do we sometimes bow down and kneel? Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker. Psalm 95:6

Why do we sometimes sit quietly before God? Be still, and know that I am God! Psalm 46:10

Why do we lay hands on the sick and pray? They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed. Mark 16:18

Why do we anoint with oil and pray for healing? Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:14

Why does the whole church pray at once for specific needs? When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God… Acts. 4:24

Why do we pray for the nations? My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations. Mark 11:17

Why do we encourage individual fasting and prayer? But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private…but when you fast… your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. Matthew. 6:6; 17,18

Why do we have speaking with tongues and interpretation and prophesy? So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:39

Why do people sometimes fall under God’s power? He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him… Acts. 9:4

Why do we sing in tongues and in English? I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. 1 Corinthians 14:14,15

Why do we speak in tongues? And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. Acts. 2:4

Why do we emphasize spiritual warfare? For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers… in heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

Fundamental Truths

These are nonnegotiable tenets of faith that all Assemblies of God churches adhere to. This list is derived from the official Statement of Fundamental Truths.

  1. WE BELIEVE…The Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind.

  2. WE BELIEVE…There is only One True God–revealed in three persons…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity).

  3. WE BELIEVE…In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God’s son Jesus was both human and divine.

  4. WE BELIEVE…though originally good, Man Willingly Fell to Sin–ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world.

  5. WE BELIEVE…Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God Through ‘Salvation’(trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior).

  6. WE BELIEVE…and practice two ordinances—(1) Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion(the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation.

  7. WE BELIEVE…the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Special Experience Following Salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times.

  8. WE BELIEVE… The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is ‘Speaking in Tongues,’ as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles.

  9. WE BELIEVE…Sanctification Initially Occurs at Salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christlike.

  10. WE BELIEVE…The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe ‘the Church’ is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ.

  11. WE BELIEVE…A Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to worship Him with other believers, to build up or edify the body of believers–the Church and to Meet human need with ministries of love and compassion.

  12. WE BELIEVE…Divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today and is provided for in Christ’s atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins).

  13. WE BELIEVE…in The Blessed Hope—When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever.

  14. WE BELIEVE…in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.

  15. WE BELIEVE…A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.

  16. WE BELIEVE…and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. ‘And so shall we forever be with the Lord!
